Amazon.com Product Description
High accuracy and superb functionality have made Korg tuners the worldwide favorite. And now, the new GA-30 joins the best-selling GA series of tuners. With even more features, like a pitch reference tone and quinta-flat tuning, the GA-30 tuner packs basic functionality and convenient tuning functions into ultra-compact bodies.

High accuracy and superb functionality. Click to enlarge.

High-precision LCD needle-type meter for stable tuning.

Sound Out can produce a reference tone from the internal speaker.

An Easy-to-Use Dedicated Guitar and Bass Tuner
This dedicated guitar/bass tuner lets you select either Guitar mode or Bass mode for truly easy operation with automatically detected pitch. The wide detection range supports 7-string guitar (7B through 1E) in Guitar mode, and 6-string bass (Low-B, Hi-C) in Bass mode. A high-sensitivity mic is built-in, allowing easy and accurate tuning of acoustic guitars.

Ultra-compact Body with a "Tilt Slit"
Although the GA-30 is small, thin, and light, don't let its pocket-sized body fool you. The GA-30 can accurately tune any guitar or bass. From studio to stage, tuning is easy and convenient. The back of the unit includes a unique arc-shaped "tilt slit" that lets you insert a plastic card for use as a handy stand.

High-Precision LCD Meter
The meter section uses a LCD needle, combining the accuracy of an LCD with the easy visibility of a needle, and providing a stable display. Additional visual feedback is provided by LEDs that indicate pitch deviation.

Sound Out--Internal Speaker Provides a Reference Pitch
In addition to visual tuning via meter, the GA-30 can play reference pitches from its internal speaker (Sound Out) for tuning by ear. Each press of the Sound switch will cycle the output sound through 7B->6E->5A->4D->3G->2B->1E in Guitar mode, or LB->4E->3A->2D->1G->HC in Bass mode.

Quinta Flat Tuning mode--a World-Wide First!
The GA-30's Quinta Flat Tuning mode supports the lowered tunings used in heavy metal styles to give more weight to the sound. Until now, dedicated guitar tuners have supported a maximum of only four semitones below standard pitch, but the GA-30 gives you five steps of flatted tuning, extending as far as five semitones below standard pitch, and supporting even super-long scale guitars that are five frets longer than conventional guitars.

Auto Power Off Function
If you leave the unit powered-on for 20 minutes without performing any operation, the Auto Power Off function will turn the power off automatically, avoiding unnecessary battery consumption.

Approximately 100 hours of continuous use
Low-power consumption design allows an amazing 100 hours (approximate) of continuous battery life (A4 continuous input, Meter mode, zinc-carbon batteries).

What's in the Box
GA30 Guitar and Bass Tuner, Owner's Manual, Two AAA batteries

5 out of 5 stars Tuna Your Bass (or Guitar) for a Shrimpy Price!   July 27, 2008
M. Allen Greenbaum (California)

This ridiculously inexpensive tuner is an amazing value. I've had mine for over five years without a hitch, and it's kept an electric bass, and electric and acoustic guitars in tune, quickly and easily.

It features a flat rectangular panel display which--if you're anywhere near the right note, detects which string you're trying to tune. So, if I'm tuning the 5th (A note) string of a guitar, I hit the open string (i.e., do not place your fingers on any of the frets), and a meter will show how far flat (left of center) or sharp (right of center) it is with the snall built-in microphone. Stop the vibration, and then turn the tuning key of the guitar until the meter settles into the center of the screen. If you're tuning a bass, switch it to bass, and it will re-set for the those strings.

Electric instruments are easy to tune because you can connect the guitar/bass output directly to the tuner (instead of, say, an amplifier). Acoustics tune well also, although getting the meter to center is not as precise or just-so accurate as a more expensive digital meter. For most purposes the tuner is MORE than adequate, and any beginner bass and guitar books will show you how to refine the tuning by sounding the same note on two different strings.

The KORG has a nice feature for instruments that are WAY out of tune, hit "Sound" and the tuner sounds out each string's tone. If you're really without a clue on what the proper range of tones, I suppose you could have all your strings one octave high or low--but, really, absolute beginners should have little or no trouble getting the hang of it. The tuner also has a button to produce the next 5 flatted notes. (Not being a very advanced musician, I haven't used it, but since it's on a basic tuner, it must be useful!)

It takes 3 AAA batteries, and the tuner doesn't seem to burn them up. For the beginner to intermediate player, it's an inexpensive, useful, and reliably accurate tuner within its non-digital display capabilities. MOre advanced players, performers, and perfectionists may want to spring for the pricier tuners, but this will suffice for the vast majority of those learning to play.

5 out of 5 stars Great value   March 14, 2007

This may not be the best tuner on the market- my Boss TU-12H is more sensitive and accurate- and it's not as rugged and convenient as my Boss stage tuner. But it may well be the best value of any tuner on the market. It's cheap enough to put one in the case of every instrument you own, and accurate enough to do a better job that you can with your ears alone. At that price, there's just no excuse for not being in tune.

5 out of 5 stars The best so far   September 22, 2006

At least the best that I've tried. I am not a professional player or anything, I've been trying to learn to play the guitar for years it seems but never have, so here I am trying again. This is my third tuner, and as I said before is the best, is the most accurate of them all and very easy to use.
If you are looking for a very accurate and very much affordable guitar tuner you can not possibly go wrong with this one

5 out of 5 stars Boudaciously Great   July 15, 2006

My dad and I wanted to play as a guitar duo, me playing on the twelve string acoustic and him on an ACOUSTIC BASS. His bass had built in electronics making it electric also. My guitar had a built in tuner but his didn't. Needing a tuner was must have. Buying this tuner was the best accessory I've bought yet. It's the best of all worlds. Good looking, easy to use, and also very small. I recommend this item to any who needs a tuner for their guitar.

This is by far one of the best tuners I have ever used. I highly recommend the GA-30 for pros and novices alike. You will not be disappointed with this one.
